With more than 30 years of experience as a trial lawyer, counselor, and skilled negotiator, Lou Brooks is an accomplished attorney recognized for his ability to manage complex legal and compliance matters. Over the course of his career, he has earned a reputation for strategic insights, strong advocacy, and expertise in navigating high-stakes legal challenges.

In early 2022, Retire SMART founder and CEO, David Brooks, recognized the company’s rapid growth and the need for seasoned legal leadership to sustain its trajectory. Reaching out to his older brother Lou, David successfully recruited him to join the team as General Counsel, where Lou now leads the Legal & Compliance departments.

In this pivotal role, Lou has been instrumental in ensuring that Retire SMART meets all legal and regulatory requirements while fostering a culture of integrity, risk management, and sustainable growth. His extensive experience in trial law and negotiation has made him a key figure in safeguarding the company’s fiduciary duties to clients, protecting its interests, and supporting its long-term success.

Lou earned his Bachelor’s degree in Economics from George Mason University and his Juris Doctorate from The Commonwealth Law School at Widener University. Outside of his professional life, Lou is a dedicated father to his special needs daughter, Aly, and an avid outdoor enthusiast. He has climbed numerous mountains, including Denali, completed several ultramarathons, and once bicycled across the United States from San Francisco to Washington, D.C., to raise money and awareness for people with disabilities.
